What does this ski & snowboard tune interval planner show?

A ski and snowboard tune interval planner subtracts recorded use days from maintenance intervals that the user enters. It keeps waxing and edge inspection on separate histories because they are not the same operation. The result says due, past due or not yet due by that entered schedule; it never says equipment is safe or fine for now.

There is no universal day count built into this calculator. Snow, base material, riding, storage, damage and manufacturer instructions vary, and a full tune is not synonymous with waxing or routine inspection. Obtain intervals from the exact manufacturer, a qualified shop or a deliberately chosen logbook plan, then enter them visibly.

Condition overrides time. HEAD’s rental manual lists concerns such as loose or broken edges and cuts exposing the core as immediate-repair findings, while burrs, rust, dull edges and visible base wear call for maintenance attention. This planner reduces that principle to a conservative flag: a visible concern prompts inspection now and does not diagnose the repair.

Elapsed use should be recorded consistently. A calendar week with no riding is different from seven use days, and half-day counting should follow the same household convention each time. The model uses the numbers exactly as entered and does not infer hours, abrasive snow, temperature cycles or terrain multipliers.

The chart compares elapsed use with the two entered intervals. It is a schedule visualization, not a wear curve. Even when an elapsed bar is shorter than its interval bar, pre-use inspection and product instructions still control. A new impact or loose component should never wait for a calendar threshold.

Method and calculation

For each task, remaining days equal the entered interval minus days used since that task. A positive remainder is not yet due by the schedule, zero is due, and a negative remainder is past due by the absolute number of use days. Wax and edge values are calculated independently.

When the condition flag is selected, both schedule labels become inspect now. This does not mean both services are required; it means a calendar-only result is no longer adequate. A technician can identify whether cleaning, waxing, deburring, sharpening, repair, replacement or no service is appropriate.

All values must be finite. Days since service can be zero, while an interval must be positive so subtraction has a meaningful threshold. The calculator does not round intermediate values, although users will commonly choose whole use days for a simple log.

Worked examples

Wax due before edge inspection

With four use days since wax, a five-day wax interval leaves one day. Four days against a seven-day edge-inspection interval leaves three. These are independent schedule differences, not a claim that either physical surface is in good condition.

Exactly on an interval

Five elapsed days against a five-day interval reports due rather than past due. That equality is explicit, making it easier to audit a log. The service still depends on actual inspection and the chosen source for the interval.

Damage after one day

A visible concern selected after only one use day produces inspect now even when both calendar intervals have time remaining. The planner does not diagnose or tell the user to grind an edge; it directs attention away from a misleading calendar-only answer.

Practical applications

  • Pre-season records: Create a dated baseline before equipment is used, preserving the exact product, measurement method, units and source so a later comparison has meaningful context.
  • Shop conversations: Bring a transparent result and its assumptions to a qualified shop. The output organizes questions; it does not replace inspection, manufacturer instructions or hands-on fitting.
  • Household equipment logs: Keep different skis, boards and riders separate. Reusing a number without its model, date and measurement basis can make an otherwise correct calculation misleading.
  • Scenario comparison: Change one documented input at a time and recalculate. The table and chart expose the effect without pretending that a modeled alternative has been physically tested.
  • Purchase preparation: Identify missing specifications before ordering products or service. An unsupported or blank result is useful when it prevents an unjustified compatibility or performance claim.
  • Handoff notes: Export the result with its limitations when another parent, rider or technician will review the equipment, then confirm that the source still applies to the exact item.

Tips for useful results

Use a dated log for each piece of equipment and define what counts as one use day. Enter intervals from an applicable source rather than copying a friend’s schedule. Keep waxing, edge inspection, sharpening, base repair and a full machine tune as separate events.

Inspect after impacts and before use regardless of the result. If an edge is loose or broken or the core is exposed, stop relying on the planner and seek qualified assessment. The damage selector is intentionally conservative and cannot describe severity from a checkbox.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tune schedule a safety or fit certification?

No. It is a planning and record-keeping result within the stated source and inputs. It cannot inspect materials, verify hardware, diagnose damage, predict performance or certify fit. Follow the exact equipment instructions and use a qualified technician or fitter whenever the decision depends on physical condition, compatibility or adjustment decisions.

Why does the calculator sometimes preserve more than one answer?

Published ranges and entered position lists can overlap. Keeping every supported match is more faithful than forcing one convenient winner. Review the product labels, exact equipment and conditions, then make the practical selection with the applicable manufacturer guidance. A calculator should expose ambiguity rather than conceal it with unsupported rounding.

What happens when a required value is unknown?

Leave optional measured fields blank and obtain required specifications before relying on a comparison. The tool does not convert blank values to zero. When the selected source has no supported result, it returns that limitation instead of clamping to an endpoint, extrapolating a chart or silently borrowing a rule from another brand.

Should I round measurements before entering them?

Use the original measured value and the unit shown. The model converts canonical units before comparison and rounds only the displayed result. Early rounding can move a value across an inclusive endpoint or discrete check boundary. Record how and where the measurement was taken so another person can reproduce it.

Can I reuse this result next season?

Treat it as a dated record, not a permanent answer. Products, instructions, conditions, service history and a child’s measurements can change. Recheck the current manufacturer source, inspect the equipment and repeat the measurements before reuse. An old export is most valuable as a comparison point with its assumptions still attached.

Why are the source limits repeated in the result?

The number is easy to detach from the method when it is shared or exported. Repeating the product line, units, exclusions and verification step helps prevent that misuse. It also makes clear which parts came from a manufacturer and which parts—such as an interval or range—were supplied by the user.
