Arizona take-home pay in 2026
An Arizona paycheck has four taxes withheld: federal income tax, Arizona income tax, Social Security and Medicare. Arizona's income tax is a flat 2.5% after a standard deduction of $15,750 ($31,500 for married couples filing jointly), and no Arizona city or county adds a local income tax.
This calculator shows the Arizona tax you actually owe for the year. Your paycheck withholding can differ, because Arizona withholds a percentage of gross pay that you choose on Form A-4; the table below shows how each choice compares. Federal figures use the 2026 brackets, the $16,100 federal standard deduction for single filers ($32,200 joint) and the 2026 Social Security wage base of $184,500.
Examples
$60,000 salary, single, paid biweekly
Federal income tax is about $5,020. Arizona tax is $1,106: ($60,000 − $15,750) × 2.5%, an effective state rate under 2%. Social Security and Medicare add $4,590. Take-home pay is $49,284 a year, or $1,895.53 per paycheck.
$120,000 household salary, married filing jointly
The $31,500 joint deduction brings Arizona tax to $2,213, and federal income tax is about $10,040. Take-home pay is $98,568 a year, or $3,791.06 every two weeks.
Minimum wage, and $25 an hour with overtime
At Arizona's $15.15 minimum wage, 40 hours a week earns $31,512 a year and about $521.27 a week after taxes. At $25 an hour with five overtime hours a week at $37.50, gross pay is $61,750 and weekly take-home is about $973.96, or $21.64 per hour worked. Overtime may also qualify for the federal no tax on overtime deduction when you file.
Choosing your Arizona withholding rate (Form A-4)
Annual Arizona withholding at each Form A-4 rate on a $60,000 salary, against the $1,106 a single filer actually owes. A positive difference is a refund at tax time; a negative one is a balance due.
| A-4 rate | Withheld per year | Withheld per biweekly paycheck | Refund (+) or owed (−) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.5% | $300 | $11.54 | −$806 |
| 1.0% | $600 | $23.08 | −$506 |
| 1.5% | $900 | $34.62 | −$206 |
| 2.0% (default) | $1,200 | $46.15 | +$94 |
| 2.5% | $1,500 | $57.69 | +$394 |
| 3.0% | $1,800 | $69.23 | +$694 |
| 3.5% | $2,100 | $80.77 | +$994 |
To match your tax closely, pick the A-4 rate nearest your Arizona tax divided by gross pay. For a single filer earning more than about $78,750, the default 2.0% withholds less than the tax owed, so choose 2.5% to avoid a bill.

Other Arizona taxes to budget for
Arizona's sales tax, the transaction privilege tax, is 5.6% at the state level, and counties and cities add their own, so combined rates are typically about 8% to 9% in the larger cities. Property taxes are low by national standards. Arizona does not tax Social Security benefits.
Estimate these costs with the sales tax calculator and the property tax estimator. Employers pay Arizona unemployment insurance tax, which is not withheld from your pay; the employer payroll tax calculator shows the employer side.
Getting a closer match to your pay stub
Enter benefit deductions as annual amounts: multiply the amount on your pay stub by your number of paychecks. Traditional 401(k) contributions and pre-tax health premiums reduce Arizona taxable wages as well as federal. If your stub shows Roth 401(k) contributions, add them as post-tax deductions.
Your stub's Arizona withholding will be your A-4 percentage of gross taxable wages, not the tax shown here; the difference settles when you file. For federal withholding, review your Form W-4 with the W-4 withholding calculator.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Arizona income tax rate?
Arizona has a flat income tax of 2.5% on all taxable income, one of the lowest flat rates in the country. It applies after the Arizona standard deduction, which follows the federal amount: $15,750 for single filers and $31,500 for married couples filing jointly on the latest Arizona return.
How much is $60,000 a year after taxes in Arizona?
For a single filer in 2026 with no pre-tax deductions, $60,000 is about $49,284 a year after taxes, or $1,895.53 every two weeks. Federal income tax is about $5,020, Arizona tax is $1,106, and Social Security plus Medicare is $4,590.
How does Arizona withholding work?
Arizona withholding is a flat percentage of your gross pay that you choose on Form A-4: 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5%, 3.0% or 3.5%, or 0% if you expect no Arizona tax. Without an A-4, employers withhold 2.0%. Because the standard deduction is not built in, the default usually withholds more than you owe; on $60,000 it takes $1,200 against an actual tax of $1,106.
What is the minimum wage in Arizona?
$15.15 an hour from January 1, 2026, adjusted each year for inflation, with a cash wage of $12.15 allowed for tipped employees. Flagstaff ($18.35) and Tucson ($15.45) set higher local minimums. Full time at the state rate is $31,512 a year, or about $521.27 a week after taxes for a single filer.
Do Phoenix or other Arizona cities have a local income tax?
No. Arizona cities and counties do not tax wages, so your paycheck has only federal and Arizona income tax withheld, plus Social Security and Medicare. Cities do add their own sales tax on top of the state rate.
How much more will I take home in Arizona than in California?
On a $75,000 salary, a single filer keeps about $1,307 a year more in Arizona than in California. Nevada, which does not tax wages, comes out $1,481 ahead of Arizona at that salary. The table below compares other western states.
